Fleshed Up - Ogre Clanrats

So its taken 4hours today and 2hours of an evening to just paint the basecoat tallarn flesh skin for all the models. As i have said using a reverse highlight....next step i am going to be doing either the next layer on skin...or start doing the basecoats for all the pouches and bandages on the skaven (to give me something else to paint).

So without further adue...Skaven Clanrats fighting with Ogres WIP:

Reverse Highlighting

Ok, so its taking forever to paint clanrat skin (i feel that i should just airbrush the tallarn flesh next time) so i thought would share the technique I am using on the models and a finished example from my 40K Orks.....

This process I find has always worked really well for me when i have spent the time to do it and really makes doing the defining layers quite easy. It looks dodgy to begin with but if you look at the Big Mek you can see that it all pays off....so without a due: Big Mek and unit filler 1 partly done....

The big mek skin was started with Orkhide Shade, then Dark Angels Green, Leaving the Orkhide in the very extreme dark parts, then snot green (two layers) was used to bring the model up...and finally a wash with thrakka green was applied to tidy up the shades between the layers.

Here is the example Unit filler (major WIP) only done the skin, cloth on clanrat and some of the metal....

First Unit: Ogre Themed Clanrats...Smashie Smashie

So here you can see a quick airbrushing of scorched brown of the three main dioramas that are in the unit.

After the red base coat to symbolize the original alliance of Clan Carrion, obviously with the three dioramas.

And now with the boltgun metal metal added to all the armor and weapons. I will aim to start doing the flesh colour asap and get another entry going....

The History and First Unit

Ok ,so first entry for the blog that will be the story of the creation of my Skaven army.

So I will give you a brief history of my clan before they embark on their journey.....

From Clan Carrion born was Nitz...Nitz started with a clanrat unit and slowly progressed into leading the stormvermin unit of the clan and it was in a battle against the ogres of the Goldtooth tribe. In this epic battle Nitz was able to slaughter a slaughtermaster and decided that he had the power to command his own clan and from this idea, the deceit set hold. The battle was going in the favour of the clan and so the Ogres began to fall back, ready to regroup and fight another day. This was not acceptable to Nitz and saw this as an opportunity to break away from the clan....

Nitz gathered a large group of clanrats and a warlock enginneer to chase down the remaining ogres to truly break the ogre tribe and to be able to break away and start his own clan.

When Nitz and his clanrats caught up with the ogres, they massacred the remaining ogres and robbed them of all their armor and weapons, ready to take on their own foes.

---------------------------------------------

Based on this basic back story the first unit that i have created for my Skaven Army is a unit of 40 clanrats and an attached poison wind mortar based on the various ogre kingdoms parts. The unit of clanrats will have 3 mini scenes of skaven fighting the remianing ogres and littering ogre gut plates throughout the unit to count as shields.

For the poison wind mortar I will be looking at using a leadbelcher gun and mounting it on the back of skaven to look like the mortar.

.....Pictures incoming asap
