Reverse Highlighting

Ok, so its taking forever to paint clanrat skin (i feel that i should just airbrush the tallarn flesh next time) so i thought would share the technique I am using on the models and a finished example from my 40K Orks.....

This process I find has always worked really well for me when i have spent the time to do it and really makes doing the defining layers quite easy. It looks dodgy to begin with but if you look at the Big Mek you can see that it all pays off....so without a due: Big Mek and unit filler 1 partly done....





 The big mek skin was started with Orkhide Shade, then Dark Angels Green, Leaving the Orkhide in the very extreme dark parts, then snot green (two layers) was used to bring the model up...and finally a wash with thrakka green was applied to tidy up the shades between the layers.

Here is the example Unit filler (major WIP) only done the skin, cloth on clanrat and some of the metal....
